All good things must end.
At this point, you don’t even have to live in the New York/Tri-State area to know about Hot 97 or Angie Martinez. Everyone knows Angie!
For over 20 years, the radio personality has been holding down the iconic Hip-Hop/R&B radio station as The Voice of New York, while interviewing the who’s who of Hip Hop and R&B. From rap greats Biggie and Tupac to presidents Bill Clinton and President Obama to music titans Kanye West and Jay Z, Angie has interviewed everybody.
But that all came to end today — radio-wise at least — as the 43-year-old has announced that she has resigned from the station she’s called home since 1994.
Taking to Instagram, Angie revealed that though it was one of the hardest decisions she’s ever had to make, she feels like it’s time to branch out and take on new challenges.
Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever
had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show [heart emoji] stay tuned…. Love, angie
Whoever takes over Angie’s afternoon drive will have some pretty big shoes to fill.
Good luck to Angie in her future endeavors! Some times you have to close one door, for other doors to open. Can’t wait to see what’s next for her!
